Gold agate pocket watch by G. Dutens
–
A small English 18 carat gold and agate chatelaine watch with matching crank key, circa 1760. The watch features a gilded full plate movement with a verge escapement, a symmetrically pierced and intricately engraved balance cock, and a silver regulation plate. It is signed and numbered by G. Dutens as 169 and has a white enamel dial with a winding aperture at 3 o’clock, Roman numerals, and an outer Arabic minute ring. The case is set with a single agate on the back, with additional agate settings on the bezel and gold mounts. It is designed in a stirrup-form pendant and bow.
–
It also includes a short chatelaine with matching agate panels, featuring a gilt metal pendant hook on the back, and a pendant chain that terminates in a matching agate-set crank key.

The watch is in attractive condition with a very faint hairline running from the centre towards 2 o’clock, and a very small chip to the edge of the winding aperture. The case has a couple of cracks to the agate of the bezel, with the gold mounts showing light scuffs and scratches. Solder is visible where the pendant clip joins the upper panel of the chatelaine. The crank key does fit but shows some wear to its squares. The movement is running, with some tarnishing.
