Pair cased repeating pocket watch by George Goodman
–
An important pair cased English gold and red agate repeating pocket watch, set with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, topazes, and amethyst, circa 1780.
This exquisite timepiece boasts a gilt full plate movement, featuring a verge escapement, a masked pierced and engraved balance cock, a fuse and chain mechanism and a silver regulation dial. The enamel dial showcases Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track with Arabic five minutes numerals, and blued steel beetle & poker hands. The watch has two cases: an inner case that is smooth, gold, pierced, and engraved, and an outer case made of red agate and gold, with applied decoration and set with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, topazes, and amethysts. The signature of G. Goodman of London is proudly displayed on the cap over the movement. The stem of the watch is marked with an eagle head facing right, while a countermark is present on the other side.
