Gold and agate verge watch of museum quality by Rice (?) Williamson
–
An important English museum quality gold, agate verge pocket watch, circa 1740-1750.
This pocket watch is truly exquisite. It boasts a fine full plate movement, key winding, one hammer, chain/worm, and a spindle escapement. The enamel dial is beautifully crafted with Roman radial hours and an outer minutes track with Arabic five minute numerals. The gold Louis XV style hands add a touch of elegance. The gold case is adorned with agate cartouches and punched rococo gold mountings made of volutes and rocailles, making it a true work of art. The openwork rim is skillfully decorated with engraved volutes and leaf tendrils. It’s signed on the movement by R. Wiliamson of LONDON and numbered 661 (or 1661).
