A very fine and rare English pair cased half quarter repeating pocket watch with early cylinder escapement, circa 1777.
Two cases: outer case – 18 carat gold, lavishly engraved with foliate decor, engraved monogram, pierced border, case maker’s punch mark “ITP”, large lateral hinge; inner case – 18 carat gold, the case band richly florally engraved and pierced, engraved medallion with vase decor, signed and numbered movement protection cap, pusher for repetition via pendant, rear bell. Signed enamel dial with radial Roman hours and gold arrow shaped hands. Firegilt, fine florally engraved full plate movement, keywind and signed, with applied engraved and pierced ornaments, chain/fusee, 1 hammer, solid circular movement pillars, cylinder escapement, three-arm steel balance, pierced balance cock with mascaron and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.
