Gilt metal and porcelain verge watch by J. Newham
–
An English gilt and porcelain pair cased open faced keywound verge watch, circa 1750. This watch features a hinged gilt brass full plate movement with square baluster pillars, a fusee and chain, and a verge escapement. It includes a plain steel three arm balance with a flat balance spring and a pierced and engraved cock, accompanied by a silver regulation disc. The white enamel dial displays radial Roman numerals for hours, an outer minute track with five minute Arabic numerals, and blued steel beetle and poker hands. It has two cases: the outer case is made of gilt metal and porcelain, with bezels painted in floral designs, and a back painted with three figures in an architectural landscape. The inner case is plain. The movement is signed and numbered.
