Gilt open faced pocket watch
–
An interesting rare clockwatch with quarter-hour self-striking, Daniel De St. Leu London, probably for the Ottoman market, circa 1800. A pair case, gilt and pierced, outer case covered with tortoiseshell, typical design for the Ottoman market, both cases pierced, inner case with bell, highly complicated and fine verge movement with quarter-hour self strike, completely signed and numbered, technically and visually in very beautiful condition, excellent preserved enamel dial (not original, because not Ottoman inscribed), gilt hands, outer case with missing parts of the tortoiseshell decoration on the front, otherwise in very beautiful condition, rare collector’s watch. Watches of St. Leu are rarities. He made some of the most precious pocket watches for the Ottoman Empire.
