An English quarter repeating pair cased verge pocket watch, circa 1750.
Two cases: transport case – brass, gilt, formerly with applied shagreen, large lateral hinge; inner case – gold, open-worked edging with hand-engraved foliate decor, two cartouches with engravings depicting a mascaron and a landscape, florally decorated pusher for repetition via pendant, case maker’s punch mark “HR”, rear bell, signed and numbered movement protection cap.
Enamel dial with radial Roman hours and blued Poker & Beetle hands. Fine full plate movement, keywind, fire gilt and signed, with applied florally engraved ornaments, chain/fusee, two hammers, moulded movement pillars, three-arm brass balance, very finely engraved pierced balance cock with mascaron and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

Richard Peckover reportedly took over Daniel Quare and Stephen Horseman’s business in 1733. In 1735 Peckover had his workshop in Change Alley, from where he moved to the Royal Exchange. He worked there until 1754.
