A heavy English gentleman’s deck watch of the British Royal Navy with a 55-minute carousel and original mahogany box, circa 1897. Silver polished case with a silver dome and case maker’s punch mark JW (Joseph Walton). Signed, numbered, enamel dial with radial Roman hours and auxiliary seconds. Numbered, signed, chatoned, frosted, gilt 2/3 plate movement with optionally key winding or crown winding, lever escapement, gold screw compensation balance, free-sprung blued balance spring with a terminal curve, florally engraved balance cock, gold escape wheel, and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

The Wright & Craighead watch company was based in St John Street, Clerkenwell, London. This company was previously the company Bracebridge & Co. The company Wright & Craighead was under the direction of Thomas Daniel Wright and was active around 1900. It was known for its high quality and fine watches. The company then also delivered various watches to the British Navy as “Makers to the Admiralty”. Several of these observation watches were one of Bahne Bonniksen’s invented Carrousel-supplied devices.
