An exceptionally Swiss decorative gold enamel hunting cased pocket watch for the Chinese market – with corresponding watch chain, circa 1870.
18-carat gold case, the lids costly engine-turned and translucent cobalt blue enamelled, engraved flower heads and foliate scrolls set with half pearls and diamonds, very finely reeded band, florally engraved pendant and edges, engine-turned and signed gold dome, case maker’s punch mark BE. Silver engine-turned dial with applied floral gold decoration, radial Roman gold numerals, auxiliary seconds at 9, and blued Breguet hands. Bridge movement, keywind, frosted and gilt, side lever escapement and screw compensation balance.
