Gold watch with painting and protective outer case

A is a very rare French open faced verge pocket watch with exceptional beautiful painting, from circa 1795, crafted in gold and set with simulated pearls. It is accompanied by gilt protective outer case.

The watch features a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer minute track and distinctive gold hands. The bezels are adorned with simulated pearls, while the case back reveals an exceptional polychrome painting depicting Cupid in a wooded landscape. A push button positioned at top the pendant allows the front to be opened.

The movement is a full plate gilt cylinder type, signed Tavernier à Paris. It is equipped with a three-arm brass balance, a blued balance spring, and a finely engraved and pierced balance bridge with a steel coqueret. Regulation is achieved via a silver disc with a blued steel indicator.
