Open faced gold and enamel pocket watch
–
A French 18 carat gold and enamel pocket watch with half pearls made by Breguet in Paris in the late 18th century (apocryphal). This watch has a key wound mechanical movement with a finely chased cock, signed Breguet à Paris on the plate, and a verge escapement and fusee-and-chain system. The white enamel dial features a black star spangled minute track, black painted Arabic numerals, and gilt arrow hands. Signed Breguet at the bottom of the dial. The 18 carat gold bezel is set with half pearls. The 18 carat gold full cover case back is decorated with blue guilloché enamel, numbered 223, and framed by a border of half pearls.

Weight: 90 g

Scratches to the case; slight damage to the dial.

Research shows this watch almost certainly did not originate from the Breguet workshops but was produced by a contemporary counterfeiter. There is no record of it in the Breguet archives, and several details, including the signature and hands, are inconsistent with authentic production.
Signed: Breguet à Paris
