Gold open faced key winding cylinder watch
–
A fine French 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch from circa 1870. It has a mechanical key winding cylinder movement with a polished steel and frosted gilded bridge layout. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minute track with red Arabic five minute numerals from 5 to 60, and elegant gold hands. The timepiece is housed in a substantial round three body, 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case. The reverse back cover has a finely engine turned pattern centring an intricately chased floral and scrollwork shield cartouche. This is framed by a detailed border along the bezel and caseband. It includes a sturdy round suspension bow and a solid 18 carat gold inner protective cuvette with two key winding apertures.
