Gold repeating pocket watch by Abraham Louis Breguet

A fine French 18k gold open faced quarter repeating cylinder pocket watch, circa 1815. This watch features a 21” gilt brass movement with a standing barrel, overhanging ruby cylinder escapement, brass balance, parachute to the upper pivot, and quarter repeating with two polished steel hammers on blocks in the band. It also includes a white enamel dial secured by a screw, Breguet numerals, outer minute divisions, a secret signature at 12, and blued steel Breguet hands. The 18k gold engine turned case has a flat band, a gilt brass cuvette signed and numbered Breguet 2466, and is secured by a screw. Additionally, it has a quarter-repeating pull-twist push-piece in the pendant.

Accompanied by a Breguet certificate dated December 2, 2019, confirming the sale of No. 2466 to the Countess of Charlemont on January 30, 1815, for 1,320 Francs.

The dial has extensive hairline cracks and a chip at 4 o’clock, but retains a secret signature at 12 o’clock. The case is rubbed with engine turning and quite scuffed throughout. The movement runs when wound and repeats when the button is deployed.
