Unique gold quarter repeater by Constant Mamet

A decorative French 18 carat gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch, circa 1850. This timepiece features a remarkable and probably unique quarter repeater which strikes the hours up to 24 times. Bridge movement, 2 hammers/2 gongs, three armed gilt balance. White enamel dial with Roman am hours, Arabic pm hours and blued Breguet hands. Lavishly florally engraved case with engraved crest and crown, signed A. N. Bodin de Veydel. Comes with original box.

The French watchmaker and jeweller Constant Mamet was born on 23 February 1834 in Mâcon, Saône et Loire, where he worked as a watchmaker at 18 Rue de la Barre. Constant Mamet died in 1892 in Mâcon and was buried on the Cimetière Saint-Brice.
