A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold quarter repeating keyless pocket watch with painted-on enamel automaton jacks, circa 1890. A polished case, hinged gold cuvette. Small opalescent enamel dial with radial black enamel Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds. They were flanked by polychrome painted-on enamel figures of a flower girl and minstrel below cherubs holding bells, repeating hours, quarters, and minutes on bells, sheet music and birds below. The whole was on a polished gilt plate and blued steel spade hands. Matte gilt movement, 17 jewels, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band.
