A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeater pocket watch made for the French retailer Coquillat in Commercy, late 19th century. It features a mechanical crown winding lever movement with a repeating complication striking the hours and quarters on internal gongs, activated by a slide mechanism on the caseband. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, a fine outer minute track with red Arabic five minute numerals 5 to 60, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and elegant steel hands. The timepiece is housed in a smooth, round, 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case with a plain, polished reverse back cover, a fluted winding crown, a sturdy suspension bow, and a solid 18 carat gold inner protective cuvette signed Coquillat à Commercy.
