An extremely small and rare French gold and enamel pre hairspring verge pocket watch, circa 1650. Gilt full plate verge movement, baluster pillars, scrolling blued steel brackets for the worm and wheel set-up, finely pierced and engraved balance cock. The dial with a white enamel chapter ring, Roman hours, the centre with a polychrome enamel scene depicting The Adoration of the Magi. The case is completely enamelled, the cover with a painting showing The Annunciation, the back with a painting of Mary and Jesus, the band showing The Flight into Egypt. Movement signed
