An early, extraordinairy French gilded brass repoussé oignon pocket watch, circa 1720. White Louis XV enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes and fine iron hands. Open faced case, mythological scene after Ovid ‘Actaion son of Apollo surprises Diana while bathing’ to the back. Gilded full plate Oignon movement with angular columns, lavishly silver decorated, verge escapement, sawn neck regulator, engraved balance cock, different animals, star in center, plate with peripheral signature. Corresponding precious gilt “Empire” watch key with carnelian stone.
