Gold and enamel open faced museum like watch
–
An important museum like, large French 20 Carat gold and enamel Rococo spindle watch with associated chatelaine made by Musson in Paris, circa 1760. This watch has a top quality case and an engraved front bezel with polychrome enamel floral decoration. The outer rim of the case back is pierced and engraved with polychrome enamel floral motifs. A central enamel painting in a typical curved rococo shape depicts a figure scene. The white enamel dial features radial Roman hours, outer Arabic five-minute numerals, and magnificent gold Louis XV style hands. The movement has an early French spindle mechanism and a large balance bridge.
–
It comes with the original gold and enamel chatelaine of outstanding quality, master’s mark MC and a crown on the reverse. The upper part has polychrome enamel mythological scenes including three plaques, each showing an arrow quiver and a knight’s armour. The chatelaine includes a gold and enamel seal in a very rare lighthouse design, a carnelian seal stone, and a sensationally rare gold key with a hidden claw, called a bed hook, with a magnified enamel painting on both sides.

The chatelaine and the watch are in outstanding condition. This piece is of museum quality and its appearance is reminiscent of the famous Michel Vieusseu from the Sandberg collection. The case features a figure scene, and the enamel on the chatelaine is very similar to the example here.
