Gold watch with tachometric scale
–
A French,  18 carat pink gold chronograph keyless pocket watch, made by Savoye Frères & Co. in Besançon, circa 1875. A massive, polished case, hinged gold cuvette, engine turned case back, outside cover with engraved monogram E.L.. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minutes ring and subsidiary seconds, at 6 and pink gold hands. One horological complication: 1/5 second chronograph, activated by the round push-piece located on the winding crown with a tachometric scale graduated for 300 metres, safety bolt locking the chronograph’s functions (slide at 1 o’clock). A gilded brass, glazed movement, going barrel, gold train of wheels, straight line equilibrated lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance with gold poising screws and blued steel hairspring with terminal curve, polished steel index regulator; early “in view” chronograph mechanism with detent type levers and gold wheels.
