A very fine and rare French, 18K varicoloured gold, diamond-set, quarter-repeating à toc watch with à tact option, circa 1760. The Hunter’s Rest by Philippe Gros, a Paris. The case with Paris hallmarks for 1760-61. A Louis XV case, the back decorated with an applied varicoloured gold scene depicting a hunter, his horse and a dog resting after a stag hunt, the whole against sunburst engine-turning, bezels with applied multicoloured floral pattern, diamond-set thumbpiece, push-button at 8 o’clock for à tact option.

White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with five-minute Arabic numerals. Diamond-set Louis XV hands. A hinged, frosted gilt full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, micrometric potence adjustment, steel balance with flat balance spring, pierced and chased foliate continental type balance cock, repeating on gold blocks in the case activated by depressing the pendant. Movement signed. Property of a Swiss Gentleman.
