Gold keyless purse watch
–
A fine and very rare 18 carat gold and enamel keyless purse watch with concealed shuttered dial made by Cartier in Paris, France, circa 1930. The rectangular case consists of two polished panels, the upper panel featuring a central black champlevé enamel monogram. By pressing the cabochon sapphires on the spring loaded top and bottom of the case, the concealed dial is revealed. Both panels are engraved with reeded decoration, have polished sides with four screws and black champlevé enamel Roman hour numerals on a polished chapter ring flanked by a row of three raised pyramidal studs above and below. The white enamel dial shows a minute track and blued steel heavy moon hands hands. The matte gilt movement is fitted with 15 jewels, a straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring and an index regulator.
Dial signed, the case with punch mark EJ for Edmond Jaeger in a lozenge.
