Gold automaton with hidden erotic scene
–
An extremely rare Jacquemart pocket watch with four automaton functions, including an erotic one, made by Abraham Louis Breguet in Paris, France, circa 1800. The exceptionally heavy, high quality case was crafted from 18 carat gold, has an engine turned back with a vacant cartouche, and its number punched into the case and on the cuvette. The silvered engine turned dial features small, central time indication with black Roman hour numerals on raised cartouches, outer minute divisions and steel hands, flanked by Jacquemart figures depicting a European lady and an African gentleman, a window below for the two further automata: a goat eating and a hidden erotic scene, which is revealed through a slide on the side. The movement is fitted with a verge escapement repeating the hours and quarter hours.
The dial and movement are signed.
