–
A very fine French 20 Carat gold and enamel open faced verge pocket watch with rare and early gold paillon flower applications, Venus disarming her son Cupid, circa 1750.
The case back in opaque light blue enamel centred by a finely painted monochrome enamel (camaïeu) scene depicting Venus taking the bow away from her son Cupid within a translucent green enamelled border over gold paillons resembling engine turning, cross shaped frame decorated with paillon flowers on a white enamel ground and translucent green enamelled cartouches. Large lateral hinge, paste-set thumb piece. White enamel dial with radial Roman hours, Arabic five minute numerals, paste set Louis XVI hands. Gilt full plate movement, key wind, chain and fusee, conical movement pillars, three arm brass balance, fine florally engraved and pierced balance bridge. Movement signed and numbered.
