Coach watch with alarm
–
An early coach clock with self strike and alarm in outstanding condition made by Abraham Le Sueur in Gisors, France, circa 1660. The open faced case of this watch, crafted from silver, has a bell and is richly pierced and engraved with flowers and foliage. The silver and gilt dial has Roman hours, an inner chapter ring with Arabic numerals for the alarm and iron hands, the center is engraved depicting a village view with mountains in the background. The movement has a verge escapement, a gut string, foliot, no hairspring, a barrel for the self strike and very fine open work decoration.
The movement is signed.
