A unique observatory deck chronometer 1st class with chronograph, made by Louis Leroy & CIE, in Paris, France, circa 1900. The open faced very high quality case of this watch was crafted from silver and gold and has stiff hinges, the case punch Louis Leroy, a numbered cuvette which is inscribed: Observatoire National de Besançon, Horlogerie de la Marine, 7 BD de la Madeleine, Fondee, 13 15 Palais Royal, Paris, Bulletin de IRE classe and the number of points won that resulted in winning the Médaille d’Or. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, a 60 minute counter at 12 o’clock, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and gold hands. The movement has a top quality anker chronometer escapement and a chronograph.
The dial, cuvette and movement are signed.
