An extremely rare French single-handed pre-balance spring verge watch in Puritan style, circa 1650.
Silver case with large lateral hinge. Silver dial, engraved centre with figures in a rural landscape, with silver chapter ring, engraved Roman hours, gilt and engraved border and finely cut hand. Signed firegilt full plate movement with baluster-shaped movement pillars, gut/fusee, verge escapement, plain two arm steel balance without spring, florally engraved and pierced balance cock and top lock with blued click work.
