Black enamelled gold lever watch by Cartier

A very fine, flat Swiss 18 carat gold and black enamel open faced Art Deco pocket watch, circa 1922. Bridge movement by European Watch and Clock Co. Inc., a piston tooth lever escapement and gold screw compensation balance. Two-tone silver plated guilloché dial, an inner polished chapter ring with Roman hours, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute numerals and decorative hands. The case is black enamelled with gold decoration on the back and a central monogram FB. Dial signed Cartier, movement numbered and signed European Watch and Clock Co. Inc. Swiss, the case is numbered twice.

Cartier was founded by Louis-François Cartier. He was born in 1810. In 1847 Louis-François was able to take over the jewellery shop of his teacher Adolphe Picard at 31 Rue de Montreuil, Paris. It is a French jewellery house specializing in making very luxurious jewellery such as rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and watches.
