Gold diamond set pocket watch
–
A French 18 carat two tone gold open faced lady’s pocket watch, made by LIP, circa 1900-1920. This watch features a hand wound mechanical movement with lever escapement. The signed LIP dial displays Arabic numerals for the hours, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and Louis XV style hands. The round 18 carat two tone gold case is of exceptional decorative quality. Both the bezel and the case back are decorated with a frieze of laurel leaves and rose bouquets, each centred with an old mine cut diamond in a closed setting, creating a refined and accomplished decorative ensemble. The case bears the French horsehead hallmark and the maker’s mark LF with a lizard, confirming its French origin and period of production. The case is numbered. Accompanied by an 18 carat yellow gold brooch pendant in the form of an eagle with outstretched wings, holding an old mine cut diamond in its beak, measuring 65 x 23 mm. The brooch bears the French eagle hallmark and an illegible maker’s mark.
