A French verge pocket watch in a plain gold case, circa 1780. Keywind verge movement. Pierced and engraved bridge cock with polished steel coqueret, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, decorative gilt hands. Fine gold open face case.
Gold pendant and bow. Wound through the white enamel dial.

Jacques Jérôme (also Gérante) Gudin was born in 1732 in Paris as the son of Jacques Gudin and Henriette Le Noir. She was a daughter of jeweler Pierre Le Noir and sister of Jean-Pierre Le Noir. He became a master watchmaker on May 12, 1762. Jacques Jérôme signed his watches with “Gudin fils” and “Gudin”. He worked for several years with Jean Baptiste André Furet (Furet). He married in 1755 Geneviève-Victoire Marteau ,. Daughter of the goldsmith Jean Marteau. Jacques Jérôme Gudin died in 1789.
