Military marine chronometer in original glazed wooden box
–
A military marine chronometer with the original key, made by A. Lange & Söhne in Glashütte near Dresden, Germany, circa 1940. The chronometer is housed in a durable black Bakelite case, set within its original glazed wooden box, which features carrying handles on both sides and a gimbal suspension system to keep the timepiece level during maritime use. The silvered, numbered dial features bold Arabic hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and elegant gold hands.
The high precision movement is equipped with a spring detent chronometer escapement, helical hairspring, chronometer balance and a solid movement holder, components chosen for maximum accuracy and reliability at sea.
The dial and movement are signed and have matching numbers.
