Brass, silver pair cased coach clock by Johann Gottfried Kriedel

A fine German coach clock with hour self strike, hour repeating mechanism and alarm, circa 1740. With original leather transport case.
Two cases: an outer case – brass, leather-covered, decoration studs, sound openings, and large lateral hinge; and an inner case – silver, open-worked decoration with finest hand-engraved cartouches, rocailles, volutes and foliate scrolls, rear bell, and two strings for repetition. Signed silver, champlevé dial with central alarm disc, radial Roman numerals for hours, outer minutes track with Arabic five minutes numerals, and Louis XV hands. Signed full plate movement, chain/fusee, two florally engraved barrels for striking- and alarm train, one hammer, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance.

Johann Gottfried Kriedel was born in 1702. He is first mentioned in 1735 as living and working in Bautzen; from 1754, he also worked in Cottbus. Kriedel died in 1757.
