Silver early verge watch with repeater on bell

An early pair cased quarter repeating pocket watch made by Johan Martin Horn in Augsburg, Germany, circa 1750. This watch features exceptionally crafted silver cases, each with sound openings. The protective outer case richly adorned with enamel decoration, while the inner case houses a bell. The well preserved white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, outermost Arabic five minute numerals and presumably the original hands. The exceptionally fine movement is fitted with a verge escapement, silver cock and repeats the quarter hours.

The watchmaker Johan Martin Horn was a master in Augsburg from 1750 and he was registered until 1786. While specific accounts of Johann Martin Horn’s business post demise are scarce in the general records, they do indicate he was active until approximately 1786.
