A German, pair cased quarter repeating coach clock with quarter hour self strike, alarm and date, of museum quality, circa 1760.
This outstanding carriage clock in a horn-covered, lavishly ornamented silver case has a finely wrought, partly openwork inner case. The inner bezel is made from gilded brass with exquisite floral engraving, and the movement has three engraved barrels for the striking mechanism and the alarm. Two cases: silver/brass/horn outer case with sound openings, large lateral hinge, and family crest; silver inner case with rear bell. Enamel dial with Roman hours, fifteen-minute outer track, date, alarm hand, date hand, and steel hands for the minutes and hours. Signed full plate movement, chain/fusee, four barrels, two hammers, verge escapement, and three-arm brass balance.
