The enamel plaque to the case back, depicting a putto playing a lyre, is of high quality and may have been inspired by an antique gem. Outside the white enamel frame which borders the central scene is an unusual amber coloured translucent enamel, over an engine-turned ground. The dial and hands are contemporary in date to the outer case which dates to circa 1780.
