Gold lever with calendar and phases of the moon

An unique Swiss 18 carat yellow gold double faced keyless pocket watch with a triple date calendar and phases of the moon, circa 1890. A heavy case, the hinged bezels on both sides and a band engraved with a repeated pattern, correctors underneath the bezel for the calendar. The first dial: Silver dial, radial Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, centre and the outermost border with applied varicoloured gold matte floral motifs and blued steel spade hands.

The second dial: Silver dial, two subsidiary dials for days of the week and months, blue enamel on gold phases of the moon with the aperture at 12, outermost Arabic date scale with corresponding hand, the centre matted and applied with gold foliage and blued steel hands. Nickel movement, Geneva striping decoration, 17 jewels, finished calendar plate with partial gold wheel train, going barrel with separate bridge, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Both dials are signed, and movement is signed on both parts.

Girard-Perregaux SA is a luxury Swiss watch manufacturer with its origins dating back to 1791. In 2022, the management of Girard Perregaux completed a management buyout from the French luxury group Kering. Headquartered in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, the company opened the Girard Perregaux Museum near its headquarters in Villa Marguerite in 1999. It is best known for the historic tourbillon with three gold bridges, which was awarded a gold medal at the 1889 International Exposition in Paris soon after the launch of the watch. Other notable models from the company include the Collection 1966, Vintage 1945 and models such as the Tri Axial tourbillon and Laureato, an icon inspired by the 70s.
