In Greek mythology, Zeus granted Endymion, a handsome shepherd-prince immortality and perpetual youth by remaining in eternal sleep. Selene (or Diana) the goddess of the Moon loved him passionately and visited him nightly. The myth inspired the English poet, John Keats to write ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever…’.
