The French jewelry house of T. Fontana & Cie was founded by a Swiss businessman, Thomas Fontana, in 1840. His son Charles took over the leadership of the firm in 1871, changing the name of the company to Ch. Fontana et Cie. In 1896, the company relocated to number 13, rue Royale, the street where the most celebrated of Parisien jewelers were found. Fontana’s creations exemplify the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.
