A fine, rare and early French gilt-brass open faced quarter repeating oignon verge watch, circa 1710. Gilt-brass verge movement, chain fusée, large pierced and engraved scroll decorated balance cock, rack and pinion regulator with calibrated silver disk, quarter repeating on one hammer onto a bell. Finely chased and engraved foliage decorated gilt dial with black Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches, outer Arabic five minute indications on white enamel cartouches, inner white enamel ring with half hour scale and blackened steel fleur-de-lys hands. Large case, chased and engraved floral and scroll decorated bezel, pierced rim with trophies of flowers and game, repeating through the turning pendant. Movement signed.
