Silver one handed pocket watch

A very early French silver pre-balance spring pocket watch made by Claude Pelletier in Roanne, circa 1640. Ribbed bassine case with a loose ring pendant, enhanced with tapering flutes and alternating engine turned decoration, the pattern continuing over the cover. Silver dial with black Roman hour numerals and half hour markers on a brushed chapter ring, the center elaborately engraved with summer flowers in low relief on a hatched ground and a single blued steel hand. A hinged gilt brass full plate movement with turned baluster pillars, three wheel train, fusee with gut line, verge escapement, plain steel two arm balance without spring and an irregular gilt brass pierced, florally engraved balance cock secured by a screw, the ratchet wheel set up cock with similar decoration. Signature on the movement.
