The present watch has been passed down through four generations of the Reed family. The original owner, Charles Shepard Reed (1868-1935), was a Yale graduate and served as President of the thriving Chicago Retort Fire Brick Company. The watch was then passed down to his son, Charles Shepard Reed Jr, who added the pen knife, and later to the present owner’s father, Charles Shepard Reed III. It is remarkable and unusual for a watch to pass through so many hands and retain all of the original accompaniments like this watch.
