A large Swiss gilt metal, enamel and paste-set open faced verge pocket watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1790. Gilt verge movement, bridge pierced and engraved with scrolls. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, centred by a polychrome enamel scene depicting a farm girl feeding chickens by a lakeside. The case back is also polychrome enamelled with a painting showing another lake scene with a youth crossing a rustic bridge towards a castle, the panel surrounded by pastes and blue enamel paillon. Dial and movement signed.
