Watteau style
Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684-1721) was a pivotal French Rococo painter from Valenciennes who shifted art from Baroque grandeur to intimate, elegant scenes, inventing the fête galante genre of aristocratic figures in idyllic, theatrical landscapes, often with underlying melancholy about love and life’s fleeting nature, influenced by Rubens and Venetian masters.
His brief career was marked by illness, particularly tuberculosis, leading to his early death in Paris.

Signed: MD (for Maurice Ditisheim)
