A very fine pocket watch with diamond setting
–
A very fine neo Renaissance gold and enamel pocket watch with diamond setting and a matching chatelaine, made in Geneva, circa 1880. This full hunter cased à goutte (waterdrop shape) watch features a case with fantastic neo Renaissance enamel work on both sides, depicting dragon motifs and is set with exceptionally large diamonds, notably, the diamond on the spring lid has a diameter of approximately 7 mm. The cuvette is inscribed “Ancre Ligne droite” (Straight line lever escapement), “11 Rubis”, “Balancier compensateur”, “Spiral Breguet”, “Levées visibles” (the escapement pallet stones are visible) and Genève.
The two coloured champlevé dial features an outer minute and hour track with Roman hour numerals, filigree style scroll work in the center, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and filigree steel hands. The very rare quality glazed Geneva movement, comparable to movements made by Patek Philippe or Vacheron & Constantin is equipped with a precision lever escapement, 22 jewels, wolf’s toothing and gold wheels.
The matching 18 carat gold chatelaine, enamelled in the same way as the case, is approximately 10 cm long and weighs approximately 26 g.
