Gold watch with ruby’s and rose cut diamond

A very fine and unusual Swiss, 18 Carat yellow gold, ruby, rose cut diamond and enamel lady’s keyless Art Nouveau pendant watch, circa 1898. Retailed by A. Newsalt, Dayton, Ohio, sold on July 9, 1901. A half open faced watch, matted bezel and band, the back cover decorated in high relief with the portrait of a young lady with flowing hair and an enamelled Madonna lily, set with six old cut rectangular rubies within a rose-cut diamond-set border.

Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial, Breguet numerals, outer minute track. Gold Louis XV hands. A rhodium plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 17 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding straight line moustache lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed.
