The brothers Henri-Louis and Philippe Auguste traded under the name “Courvoisier Frères” from 1842. In 1882 the name changed to “Courvoisier Fils” when other brothers joined the partnership. Specializing in high-quality clocks, they were commissioned by the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds to build a clock for the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhalm IV; This is said to have been the thinnest watch in the world at the time. The Courvoisier brothers registered the tourbillon movement invented by the Swiss Paul Loichot, which he turned inside the case to make it visible on the dial side (Swiss patent no. 30754), under the trade name “Mobilis” on July 4, 1905 with the patent number 19062.

Trip repeaters are much more advanced and complex. Using a double barrel system with tandem winding and a longer spring for the repeating power, this timepiece chimes from a simple push of the trip button and the chiming function can be repeated several times before the spring needs to be re-wound.
