Ernest Guinand of Le Locle was a gifted tourbillon maker like his peer Auguste Grether (1817-1879) of Ponts-de-Martel. Both men worked for several firms in Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds. Guinand probably produced his first tourbillon around 1865. His very first one, No. 1060, was later sold to Girard Perregaux and he is said to have sold as many as 25 tourbillons to this company. Ernest Guinand died in 1879.

Célestin Prost worked as a jeweller and watchmaker from about 1855 to 1895 in Vevey, a town on the northeastern shore of Lake Geneva. Prost presented a pocket chronometer at the World Exhibitions in London and Paris in 1867.
