Gold and enamel pocket watch with verge escapement
–
A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold and enamel open faced pocket watch with demi pearls, made for the Ottoman market and dating from the late 19th century. This watch has an 18 carat gold case with a demi pearl, edged bezel. Its white enamel dial shows Turkish numerals for hours and minutes, arrow shaped hands, and a key window at 2 o’clock. The dial has visible damage. The case back is decorated with blue enamel over ribbed guilloché, creating a vivid contrast with the gold. Inside, the tilted mechanical movement includes a cock and verge escapement.
