A very fine and rare English 18K gold, enamel and pearl-set open faced centre seconds lever pocket watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1840. Three-body, Empire case, pearl-set bezels, stem and bow, hinged and sprung back cover with polychrome painted enamel bouquet of spring flowers upon a pale green ground and within turquoise and engraved gold scroll border. Hinged and sprung glazed cuvette. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic quarter-hour numerals, blued steel ovoid hands. Gilt movement, foliate chased and engraved, Chinese calibre, standing barrel, jewels in screwed chatons, lateral lever escapement, three-arm polished steel balance, diamond endstone, index regulator. Movement signed.
