Gold jumping seconds chronograph by Huguenin & Grezet
–
A Swiss, yellow gold hunting cased, two train, split seconds chronograph watch with independent seconds and 1/4 seconds indication, circa 1890. The watch features a glazed bridge movement with tandem winding, mirror polished catches on the top, a piston tooth lever escapement, and a gold screw compensation balance. The white enamel dial displays Roman hour markers, outer minute divisions, an outermost track for fifths of a second, which includes Arabic numerals for every five minutes/seconds, 1/4 second indication, and moon hands. The 18k yellow gold engine turned case includes a hinged cuvette and back. Both the dial and movement are signed, while the case is numbered and signed J.G.

The watch is running, and the chronograph is functioning correctly. The case is in good condition and attractive, featuring a well-defined engine turning on the back and crisp numbers inside. While some wear and light oxidation is visible to the naked eye, the overall look remains appealing. The dial is in fair condition and looks attractive, with the enamel intact. However, some light pits and surface scratches are visible, including fine spotting. The hands show noticeable tarnishing and have developed a nearly uniform oxidised purple colour.
